how can i get in and view these tunnels without getting caught or going off the platform at st james
o come on im only 15 but my dad has told me about these tunnels for years iv gone through drains under the whole city and i live in manly and have fished out evry bloody pssible drain there, you should come to boneyards! but yeah little advice please please i love trains and i love tunnels and drains!
hmm. perhaps you should wait till you're 18 and get in contact with the cave clan. At the very least they can show you some more drains and some abandoned train tunnels.
Cityrail used to have tours down here, but a lot of things have changed in the last few years. It's getting harder and harder to visit these places without upsetting someone.

yea thanks i wanted to do that but i boudt they would want me if i was not 18 and i want to meet trainman from the cave clan...he been in some very cool train tunnels! do you have to be 18 to join the cave clan cus i was thinking about putting in a newbies thing but had second thoughts...anyway wb
They don't accept people under 18, and they definately don't accept just anyone. I'd wait a couple of years and send em an email. If you've got the right motivation they'll welcome you.

My dad used to work at garden island dockyard about 20 or more years ago! He said that they had an abandoned train tunnel which they used for storage purposes, but the tunnels must have stretched on for miles. Towards Bondi Junction probably. They even went exploring through it at times and tree roots hanging down in the tunnels scared the hell outta them. Apparently there were some fascinating historical things in there too, an old timetable (probably stolen or rotten by now) and newspaper clippings stuck to the walls. But unfortunately my dad left that job a long time ago, and now the government owns all the dockyard for naval purposes. So access to that particular tunnel would almost be impossible. As I am highly interested in urban exploration, could anyone guide me into the right direction to join the clan?
Hi wizard! I am really fascinated with some of these places. Its driving me mad, I just want to get down and see it all! because I am so interested with the whole exploration thing, I have sent an email to the clan, hoping they could possibly show me some tunnels an stuff. Only problem is, no reply? What would you suggest?
try newbies@sydneycaveclan.org. tell em what you have to offer. with a bit of luck they might invite you along to something.

i got in to the disused tunnels and st james lake last week. then into the war bunkers. fucking cool. wanted to hit the gong thing but it was like mission impossible. couldn't blow our cover. i have the handiest connections and constantly undertake urban exploration around sydney. most recent was the griffiths tea building and the old workers union. oh and the ghost platforms above bondi line at central. i know a relative of the cave clan but havn't chased up membership. i'm starting to think i should. p.s.
^ really how did they know it was you, get followed in or out? cameras in there? did you do anything illegal besides tresspassing and what did you get charged for if you did.
Kevin. Maturity levels for the most part. That being said, a lot of stupid people are over 18 too but you'd assume if you're over 18 you know that any risk taking is solely on your shoulders. And we dont have to worry about mum and dad getting the shits with us
sledgy or wizard - I was wondering, is that newbies address still valid or is there another I could write to...? ( ah, hoping there's another, as I just tried that dot org address :{ ) I'm increasingly interested in ( obsessed with ) urban exploration, but I don't want to head out on my own for a lot of it, especially where tunnels are involved.
Kevin, Sledgy summed it up pretty well. The CC aren't really into permission slips.
Griffin, Yep, the address is still the same. Be patient with them... The Cave clan don't exactly need members, so exploring occasionally gets priority over expanding.

Hey. the Cave Clan don't have an monopoly. start a club yourself. just as they had done years ago. be a leader, not a follower. I used to be a member of the Sydney Speleological Society, do I need "The Clan". Perhaps, perhaps not. They don't own anything. if they take themselves that serious who needs them. I was crawling in drains when most for their mothers was in nappies.

notsooNoob: What you said seems slightly implausible. How would they identify you? I really wonder what silly thing you must have done if that actually happened. Anyway, you won't get in there off the platforms...
Last year a group of guys did battersea power station and left a water bottle behind. The next day they all got visits.

wow you serious Wiz? BTW also have viewed each of your pics now, loved pretty much every one Kudos to you sir. Ive not done much exploring myself although I have been to that glowworm cave near Lithgow (if that rediculous track to get to it counts as near anything). Im a bit old really to do much these days so Ill just admire your artworks Made my day, seriously
Yeah. I assume it was finger prints on the bottle but could just have easily been DNA when you consider the size of the uk NDNAD.
I'm glad you like the photos.

Yeah, so the police were in an abandoned building, found a water bottle, ran it for DNA tests in the crime lab, and then visited the entire group who all must have used the bottle, all within 24 hours. Amazing. And all to charge some people with trespassing. Yes, that is a highly plausible story.
'guest_Haha', no I'm suggesting police finger printed the bottle then visited one person and found photos implicating the others. No one said anything about them being charged.

Fingerprints are also way quicker than DNA which take a min of 48hrs often longer to be processed accurately.

No cameras anywhere in st James except one of the abandon plattys. Done all of st James excepts the rooms past the gong, at the time I didn't even know they were there. Apperently alot more shit is past the gong room, a few more tunnels supposedly.

UrbanTwilight...
UrbanTwilight is photographing the underground tunnels, abandoned buildings, rooftops, and hidden industry that most people would never normally get to see. The images contained on this site have been shot in Sydney, Adelaide, Melbourne, Canberra, Hobart, and countless country locations inbetween. Nearly all have been taken in low to very-low lighting conditions, and most on Canon digital equipment.
The Julia Farr Home for Incurables
After sitting vacant for more than 30 years, the Julia Farr Hospital's 'Home for Incurables' has finally been demolished.
Urbantwilight hid a camera on the roof of a neighbouring bulding and filmed the 4 week demolition process. Checkout the timelapse video.
14/02/13
UrbanTwilight turns 10 this year so I've finally made some time between the tunnels and abandoned buildings (and my day job) to make a few improvements around the place.
The images are bigger, the old ones have been colour corrected, and a handful have been given the flick. Most importantly there's a whole new section called 'Archives' -
You should check it out from time to time, you never know what you might find.
The Funnel
An expedition report of sorts, this has been hiding on Urbantwilight for years. 'The Funnel', 'The Pothole', 'Skate or die'. Whatever you choose to call it, this place is awe-inspiring.
