AHA! After another recent trip into the bowels of Ballarat, I came across this lovely section and thought, 'This looks familiar, ahhh yesssss, that Wizard fellow has been here alright, and he's taken another one of his lovely photos.' What was the exposure time on this one? Or is that asking too much for you to remember? Now that I know where all the tunnels in Ye Olde Ballarat are, I've moved up to dragging a tripod around to take better shots. Hope to have them visible somewhere soon.

4 seconds, f2.8, iso100... a nice quick one. Tripods are a worthwhile investment (in both money, and the effort to drag them around the place), you'll end up taking much better shots. I look forward to seeing some of them.

Forgot to ask this in the previous comment, but what kind of lights do you use? I'm still using basic low watt bulb and LED torches. Often I press the camera shutter and just start madly waving the torches around in both hands. This foolhardy method has yielded some interesting results. I'll send you some samples soon via email.

I carry a small LED torch at all times. This acts as a good backup when exploring underground areas and is useful where illumination needs to be discreet. I very rarely use it for photos tho. My primary torch is a rechargeable Maglite, but i use several other incandescent torches depending on the situation.

I have to ask where in the Ballarat drains this is? I have travelled through most of the larger drains but I have never come across anything like this.

It was ages ago now, but i think this was quite some crawl up a side tunnel running off the main ballarat side tunnel (the beautiful bluestone thing that runs under the car dealership). Might have required a boost to get into it iirc.
